Senator Tom Harkin Visits MoveIt® Companies
On September 8, Senator Tom Harkin toured the MoveIt® Companies (formerly Computer Transportation Services) main office facility in Breda, Iowa.
Randy Hildreth, USDA Area 9 Director, and Chris Mercer, Business and Cooperative Programs Specialist for the USDA Area 9 office in Storm Lake, IA also toured the facility.
Rural Development Loan
Senator Harkin said “One of my main reasons for visiting their facility was to see the energy efficiency improvements that were made possible in part by a USDA Rural Development loan/grant award to the company. “ They moved from a 5,000 square foot facility to a new and much larger 8,000 square foot facility and it is much cheaper now for them to operate this bigger facility because of the energy efficiency improvements.”
Worldwide Scope
Todd Partridge, Vice President of Operations said Senator Harkin was particularly interested in the international scope of the business. Todd said, “ We discussed a recent project we did in Japan, and the Senator was pleased that thanks to internet and communications improvements a company in rural Iowa can compete in the international arena.”
At the end of the tour Senator Harkin was treated to homemade salsa and zucchini cake made from produce from the MoveIt® employee garden.
